Confluence Prep Debuts

First assignment: Head to college

Confluence Preparatory Academy became the newest member of the Confluence family this August, when it opened its doors to 85 9th grade students. Under the leadership of Principal John Diehl, CPA is focused on preparing students for success in college.

So, what better way to start their high school experience then by visiting college!

For CPA students, this meant a field trip to Missouri University of Science and Technology (formerly the University of Missouri- Rolla and Confluence Academy’s sponsoring institution).

The busses left CPA early, and the students arrived in Rolla for breakfast in one of the student union dorms with their host, Mr. William Perkins, the Director of the Center for Pre-College Programs.

After breakfast , the students attended various presentations by MST staff that stressed the requirements for admissions (MST is one of the preeminent math, science and engineering institutions in the country), expectations students must meet during their course of study, and scholarship opportunities. They also heard about the robotics competition that Confluence Academy, along with other schools, took part in last year and will again take part in this school year in the spring.

The students then took a campus tour, lunched at the Student Union with college students, and toured some dormitories. This event was just the first in a series of experiences revolving around college that CPA students will enjoy this year. All of these events are perfectly in keeping with the special mission of the school – to prepare out students for success in college, and to keep their eyes on that prize throughout their high school careers.
