Adinkra Cloth Stamping

Ms. May worked with 6th, 7th and 8th grade students at Walnut Park on a unique printmaking project --- Adinkra Cloth Stamping.

The project is based on an ancient and traditional art that has been created by the Akan people of Ghana and the Ivory Coast. Symbols are painted or stamped onto fabric creating the Adinkra cloth. The stamps have meaning, giving the garment not only a beautiful design, but also a message about the wearer.

Students participated in all aspects of the printmaking process resulting in these beautiful designs, which are on display along the main corridor at the school.
